From Florence to Rome Day Trip by High-Speed Train

12 hours

Easy

An excursion from Florence to Roma, where you will join a guided tour of the significant monuments before having free time to enjoy the city.

Starting from Florence, you will board a high-speed train from Santa Maria Novella Station and, after a comfortable journey of about 1.5 hours, you will arrive at Roma Termini Station. From here, you can begin your discovery of the Eternal City: you can easily reach the city’s most iconic squares and monuments on foot or by metro.

Our suggested itinerary begins with the universal symbol of the city: the Colosseum. After taking metro line B1 for two stops, you will meet your guide for a group tour of the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, and the Palatine Hill. This extraordinary archaeological complex represents the beating heart of ancient Rome. The Colosseum, a majestic amphitheater that once hosted gladiator fights, wild animal hunts, and public spectacles, never fails to impress. Just a short walk away, the Roman Forum was the center of the city’s political, religious, and economic life, filled with temples, arches, and basilicas. The Palatine Hill, one of Rome’s seven hills, offers stunning views over the city and is linked to Rome’s mythical origins, as well as housing the remains of ancient imperial residences.

At the end of your guided tour, you will have free time to explore the historic center on your own following our recommendations. We suggest heading to Piazza Venezia, dominated by the imposing Altare della Patria (Vittoriano). From here, you can go up to the panoramic terrace to enjoy breathtaking views of the city.

Continue towards the famous Trevi Fountain: take a moment to admire its baroque beauty and, following tradition, toss a coin to ensure your return to Rome. Wandering through narrow streets and charming squares, you’ll reach the majestic Pantheon, one of the best-preserved buildings from antiquity, now a basilica. Finally, end your day at Piazza Navona, one of the city’s most beautiful squares, famous for Bernini’s Fountain of the Four Rivers and its lively atmosphere filled with street artists, cafés, and restaurants.

After soaking up the history and art of Rome, you can choose your preferred train back to Florence, taking with you unforgettable memories of the Eternal City.
